ABOUT US

FUNKTIONARTS is a nonprofit organisation based in Stockholm. We are an artistic and pedagogical platform dedicated to promoting and providing health-enhancing cultural activities for people with disabilities, primarily children, youth, and seniors.  We currently operate in Sweden and aim to expand our work to Spain.

Our motivation aligns with promoting social inclusion and increasing accessibility, contributing to social sustainability in line with the United Nations' Agenda 2030.

Addressing the Need

People with disabilities face disproportionate social isolation and reduced physical activity (World Health Organization). This impacts not only their well-being but also poses challenges for their families. Navigating medical, developmental, and educational interventions, coupled with caregiving responsibilities, affects the mental health of parents.

At FUNKTIONARTS, we believe in the power of inclusivity, bringing people with diverse backgrounds and ages together, and fostering not only the learning and experience of artistic activities, but also the opportunity to engage with different languages, both verbal and non-verbal, and cultures.

We prefer to focus on and refer to 'diffabilities' (different abilities) rather than solely highlighting disabilities. This perspective emphasizes the unique strengths and capabilities of individuals, promoting a more inclusive and empowering narrative.

Our approach is centred around the belief that the intercultural, social, and environmental dimensions integrated into our activities play a crucial role in health enhancement. We go beyond traditional boundaries, creating a space for learning, sharing best practices, and exchanging ideas. Through our professional team's combined expertise in dance, music, visual arts, and photography, we aim to create a positive impact on both individual and group levels.

By focusing on intercultural, social, and environmental aspects, we don't just provide activities; we create enriching experiences that foster personal growth, community connections, and lifelong memories.

What sets us apart is our commitment to mobility and accessibility. We bring our activities directly to the participant's preferred locations, making it possible for schools, care homes, or other groups to enjoy the cultural activities without the barriers of transportation or venue setup.
